With the arrival of my first grandchild I set out to find a swaddle. With my three children I was a keen swaddler and wanted to pass the benefits on to my children. After 9 years, 7 grandchildren and numerous babies in my care as a Newborn care specialist Swoop baby appeared on my insta and with great delight ticks all the boxes for the perfect swaddle. The size, stretch, soft organic cotton and design have kept my babies I care for tight, comfortable and soothed throughout the night. When I first met Hudson and his mum, she was feeling pretty apprehensive, “This will be your hardest job,” she said to me on night one. Hudson had been waking every 30 minutes overnight, leaving his mum and dad exhausted and feeling like things would never change.

After just three nights of in-home support, things started to shift. We worked on helping Huddy learn how to fall asleep independently, and soon enough, he was self-settling and resettling on his own through the night. The results were incredible—and fast!

Hudson’s naps took a little longer to fall into place (very normal), but now, he’s consistently taking 2-hour lunch naps, and he has to be woken from them! No more 10-20 minute cat naps. 

Hudson LOVES his sleep now—falling asleep calmly, no tears, and waking up refreshed and ready for fun! This journey has been so rewarding, and I couldn’t be more proud of the progress we’ve made together 💙

When it comes to sleep, what your baby eats plays a big role in supporting those long, restful stretches. A well-balanced diet, with key nutrients, can help prevent night wakes and early mornings. 💤

Here are some quick tips to support sleep through solid foods:

1️⃣ Introduce solids slowly: Start with lunch, then move on to dinner, and breakfast last.
2️⃣ Offer a variety of foods: A mix of finger foods and purees/mash to keep things exciting!
3️⃣ Don’t skip the protein: Protein is essential to keep your baby’s blood sugars steady and avoid those middle-of-the-night wakeups. Start with protein at lunch from 6m and offer it at all meals from 9m.
4️⃣ Low GI carbs are key: Foods like oats, pasta, lentils, sweet potato, fruits, and veggies are great options to keep your little one feeling satisfied.
5️⃣ Nutrient-rich foods: Zinc, iron, and omega-3s found in meat, dairy, leafy greens, and fatty fish support sleep and overall health. Try adding fish to the menu once a week.
6️⃣ Magnesium for restless nights: If your little one is restless, magnesium (found in foods like leafy greens and nuts) can help. An Epsom salt bath or magnesium spray can help relax those muscles before bed.

Food plays a bigger role in sleep than many realise. A well-fed baby is a well-rested baby! 🌙
